Description

These units were used as playback amps in the Motown engineering department. They have the stamped metal Motown tags which have their own separate Motown serial numbers outside of the one's used by McIntosh. These should be in a museum. They were the find of a lifetime.
I have had these units completely and carefully serviced by none other than McIntosh authorized technicians. I've had my time with them so it's off to the auction. I'm selling them as a pair, personally I don't think they should be separated. Thinking of all of the amazing Motown artist of the era listening to their playbacks for the first time amplified by these two units. It makes for an amazing feeling every time I played music through them.
I bought them as functioning components for my personal audiophile system. I've had them in use for
almost a decade
in a 20' x 30' private break room in our office building. They were joined with a McIntosh C33 Preamp, (4) Altec-19's along with some other great components. Guest were taking back with the history to say the least.
"Motown started moving their recording studio to Los Angeles in 72'. These amplifiers made that move and were a part of the playback chain in the Los Angeles studio. It's extremely rare to have pieces of history used in a studio where some of the best American music came from.
They have unmistakable Provenance."
The amps were both in for routine service, cleaned and tested by McIntosh factory trained technicians which had strict instructions not to distort the historical patina.
